The Big Splash on Union Street

Shickshinny residents could not have asked for a more beautiful day this past Saturday, with the sky cloudless and endlessly blue and the thermometer reading “80F”.
What Skovish Pool and Spa offered the town made this perfect picture complete.
The pool, spa, and pet supply store has been back in buisness since the first week in April. However, this past weekend marked the much deserved celebration of the re-opening of its doors after the flood of September, 2011 devestated so many businesses, homes, and lives. The rebuilding was long, dirty, and sometimes, emotionally taxing. Yet, when all was done, Skovish was back bigger, better, and most importantly, here for its community.
Skovish celebrated along with the neighborhood by holding a street festival that included free hotdogs, popcorn and cold drinks. Children were happy to sit still for several minutes for some creative face painting. Local musician, Jeff Brown, provided the perfect background soundtrack for this Union Street event. The crowd in the store itself was as spirit boosting as the festivities just outside the door. Many stopped in to admire the colorful murals painted by local artist, Joan Schooley. The pride and excitement showing in the faces of the owners and employees of Skovish was positively contagious to all present…
…because we should all be proud of what we and our neighbors have accomplished; managing to rise above and move ahead after the receding waters of September 2011.
